Do you ever find yourself stuck in a rut? Because I often do. Sometimes I get so busy with my responsibilities that I neglect making the time to do things that spark joy.
I challenge you to write a list of 20 things you enjoy doing (present or past). If you’re not currently doing any or a lot of these things, maybe it’s time you did. Save this list for future reference. Note: this was inspired by an exercise listed in The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron.
I understand that you may feel as though you just don’t have enough time in the day. But maybe you just need to make the time. Instead of scrolling on your phone, use 10-15 minutes to do something that’s on your list. Wake up early if you have to.
Embrace your life fully. Make use of your gifts and talents. You’ll have a more positive outlook on life. Pursue hobbies and nourish your soul.
20 Things I Enjoy Doing (in no particular order):
1. Journaling & nonfiction creative writing
2. Trying new restaurants
4. Hiking
5. Traveling
6. Hanging out with family and friends
7. Watching good TV shows/movies
8. Listening to uplifting music
9. Successfully cooking things and sharing them with others
10. Going to comedy shows
11. Snowboarding (I miss this! Our snowboards are collecting dust in our garage. We haven’t gone since having our son.)
12. 6 am workout classes (currently into resistance training) - I’ve never been a morning person, and it’s still a struggle when I don’t have a scheduled workout. But it’s a good start to the day.
13. Yoga
14. Reading, particularly nonfiction & learning. This includes the Bible - so much wisdom & comfort!
15. Listening to inspiring podcasts
16. Decluttering and having an organized space (except when it’s a chaotic mess, I feel overwhelmed & tend to procrastinate)
17. Drinking good coffee in the mornings
18. Applying ColorStreet nails - I don’t do this all the time, but adding a little beauty into my life makes me feel somewhat put together. I’m normally wearing comfy mom clothes.
19. Board game nights with friends (I miss this one as well! So much harder to coordinate these days)
20. Bargain shopping and finding things I love
